The University of Illinois Graduate Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity that covers tuition, health insurance, and provides a stipend of $31,800 per year.

Dr. Rutkoski is currently seeking a master’s or doctoral degree to conduct research that will improve the profitability of wheat production in the Midwest.

In addition to conducting independent research, graduate students participate in wheat development through advanced breeding or practical phenotyping. and by participating in selection decisions in the soft red winter wheat breeding program at the University of Illinois.

To meet this long-term goal, hired graduate students develop independent research in the fields of plant breeding and quantitative genetics. They will focus specifically on one of two topics:

  • Improving methods for phenotyping and selection of wheat traits important for the profitability of wheat-soybean interbreeding systems or
  • A predictive breeding approach that can use advances in high-throughput genomic and phenotypic prediction to accelerate grain yield improvement in wheat.

Award amount and duration:

  • Postgraduate students are hired as research assistants and their tuition is covered.
  • Health insurance and benefits are available.
  • The stipend for graduate students is currently $2,453.33 per month. The stipend for PhD students is currently $2,649.60 per month.
