MEXT Scholarship 2024-2025 is a fully-funded scholarship for international students. This scholarship is available for undergraduate, masters, doctoral and training studies. The MEXT scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation and monthly living expenses. and return airfare from your country to Japan.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate or research (Master’s/PhD) students under the Scholarship Program. Japanese Government (MEXT)

The MEXT Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship for international students to study in Japan for free. This scholarship will provide recipients with the following benefits:

  • Allowances: monthly allowance, preparation allowance (2024 rates)
  • Tuition fees: Fees for entrance examinations. Tuition fees at the university will be paid by MEXT.
  • Travel Expenses: Travel to Japan: MEXT will cover the cost of roundtrip airfare from your country to Japan. The ticket will be an economy class ticket for that flight.
  • Accommodation: Dormitory for international students provided by the university.

Eligibility Criteria for MEXT Scholarship 2024

To qualify for the MEXT scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements below:

  • Required language: English
  • Eligible Countries: All countries around the world
  • Applicants must have citizenship of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
  • Applicants who are Japanese nationals at the time of application are not eligible.
  • For undergraduate students: You must be at least 17 years of age and under 25 years of age and have completed 12 years of school or completed a course of study in a school equivalent to high school. (Including those who are expected to graduate)
  • For Masters/PhD students: You must be under 35 years of age and have completed a college degree. (including those expected to graduate) or must have completed 16 years / 18 years of study
  • For teacher trainees: You must be under 35 years of age and have graduated from a college or teacher training college. You must have at least five years of work experience as a teacher in a primary, secondary or teacher training college in your country.
  • For students studying Japanese: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old. Applicants must be enrolled as an undergraduate student in a faculty or school majoring in Japanese language or Japanese culture in a university outside Japan at the time of their visit to Japan, and Must be enrolled in their home institution at the time of their return to their home country.

How to apply for MEXT 2024 scholarship?

Please follow the following application instructions to apply for the MEXT scholarship:

  1. Find the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country from here.
  2. Visit the website of the Japanese Embassy in your country. Under the Education/Scholarships tab you will find the MEXT Scholarship.
  3. Download the MEXT scholarship application form and fill out the information.
  4. Submit required documents (listed below) to the Japanese Embassy in your country.

  6. After that, there will be an interview with the applicant.
  7. Selected applicants will be notified via email or the embassy website.

  • Master’s degree program applicants: Bachelor’s degree
  • Doctorate Program Applicants: Master’s Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree program applicants: 12 academic years
  • Applicants for master’s degree programs: Bachelor’s degree transcripts.
  • Ph.D. Program applicants: Master’s degree transcript.
    Note: If the certificate is not in English Please attach a copy of the English or English translation.
